The value of smart watches in monitoring exercise heart rate and resting heart rate

Updated: Sep 28, 2022

Everyone knows that heart rate is an indicator of exercise intensity. Heart rate is one of the indicators to measure the intensity of exercise. With the popularity of smart watches in recent years, especially after smart watches can monitor heart rate. Most athletes wear a smart watch to monitor their heart rate changes during exercise. There are too many smart watches on the market to choose from, and those with reasonable financial conditions will generally choose some high-end ones. Such as Apple watch, HUAWEI watch, Samsung Galaxy watch, Veekoon watch RIG, Fitbit, Garmin. Smart watches such as Xiaomi can monitor heart rate. In particular, Veepoo watch RIG will be more accurate, after all, the main focus is on health monitoring. Now wear smart + the same pace to run, for example, A's heart rate is 140/min, and B's heart rate is 160/min, we can simply say "B's exercise intensity is high?"

Heart rate is an indicator of exercise intensity, you can’t just look at the real-time heart rate

Everyone's heart rate is changing at any time, ranging between the resting heart rate and the maximum heart rate. Of course, this value range will vary with each person's physical condition (including exercise habits, health status, age, etc.).

Therefore, when we use the heart rate to look at the exercise intensity, we can't just rely on the heart rate during exercise. It is also necessary to consider the individual's resting heart rate and maximum heart rate at the same time.

The resting heart rate can be measured for 1 minute in the supine position before getting up in the morning. If you are sitting or standing, your pulse will be higher. The resting heart rate of adults is generally 60-75/min. People who train frequently, especially those who perform endurance sports training for a long time, will have lower values. Because the resting heart rate is lowered by training, it is mainly because the heart contractility becomes stronger, and the pumping volume of each heartbeat increases. There are also many athletes who have hypertrophy of the heart (large muscle and large capacity). The amount of blood circulation required by the human body in 1 minute = the number of heartbeats in a minute * the pumping volume of 1 heartbeat. If the amount of blood pumped per heartbeat increases, fewer heartbeats can be used to ensure the same blood circulation.

It can be said that the decrease in runners' resting heart rate is the result of improved heart function, which means that they can adapt to more intense exercise. From this point of view, the resting heart rate is one of the criteria for measuring whether a person can adapt to high-intensity exercise. But under normal circumstances, we cannot accurately know our resting heart rate. It can only be measured by equipment. The most convenient way at present is to use smart watches to monitor heart rate, whether it is dynamic or static. In terms of heart rate monitoring, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, Garmin, Fitbit, Veepoo, etc. The smartwatches performed very well. From Xiaomi began to apply heart rate monitoring to smart bracelets. A large number of smart watch manufacturers have begun to apply health monitoring functions to smart watches. Whether it is traditional old brands such as Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung, or small manufacturers such as Garmin, Fitbit, Veepoo, etc., they have developed smart watches with their own characteristics. . And they are all focused on health monitoring functions, such as heart rate, ECG, blood oxygen, blood sugar, sleep apnea, HRV and other functions are applied to smart watches, reflecting its health functions from all aspects. Apple watch, HUAWEI watch, Samsung Galaxy watch, Veepoo watch RIG, etc. have integrated these functions into their smart watches. These smart watches can basically monitor health from beginning to end. Especially Veekoon watch RIG.
